Employment Problem

Yesterday I got up and moving pretty quick as I had to get the truck to Ford for 830.  I met our new neighbor who asked what we did, etc.  I told him about our adventure after selling everything and quitting our jobs and his response was.  “Oh, you’re part of the country’s employment problem.”  I clarified that we quit our jobs and I don’t know if he can do the math that we didn’t collect unemployment while we traveled the country.  I don’t think we’ll be hanging out with him anytime soon.

I got to Ford at 825 and they said they were on schedule.  Oil change, tire rotation and transmission service.  The tech said it would be 3 hours.  I questioned that and he advised that’s how long it takes.  I resigned myself to hanging out in the neighborhood for a bit.  As of 925, the truck was finally brought into the garage and I decided to take a walk.  I went to Rural King and hung out in the sporting goods section.  After that I wandered through the great Florida yard sale at the old mall.

The truck was done at just before 11 and I was glad I didn’t have to hang around any longer.  I don’t know if it’s me, but I think the truck shifts better now.  I got back and we walked the dogs.  We attended “hot dog” Friday with about 60 other people.  I had the “alternate meal”, Chicken Fried Rice, Egg Roll and a drink for $4.  Dessert was a crockpot cake and ice cream for a $1.

We then walked the kids again before taking a bike ride to check on some employment opportunities in Yankeetown.  It was a 16 minute bike ride and we talked to a Levy County Sheriffs Deputy about the area.  He was a wealth of knowledge on Levy, Marion and Citrus Counties.  I was surprised to learn he has about the same number of years as I would right now and he is topped out right around 50k.

After Yankeetown we continued our ride and went to the gulf.  We saw our first Water Moccasin sunning itself right in the middle of the bike path.  I smoked my brakes and tires to avoid getting near it.  It was pretty plump and about 4-5’ long.  I’m thankful for good disc brakes.  We made it to the gulf and then came back to the park.  We walked the kids again and played 3 games of horseshoe’s.

Katy is getting the hang of it and the third game ended up being really close.  I had two ringers in one round of tosses and Katy got one the next game.  At the end of the day, our contribution to the employment problem was a 17 mile ride, 11 miles of walking, 3 games of horseshoe’s and a nice sunset.  Check.
