Ala Bama

I’m going to work this one backwards.  We are in Lillian Alabama and had planned to be in Panama City.  We both came down with colds in the past few days and haven’t done a whole lot.  I went to Perdido Key on Christmas Day while Katy hung out at the rig.  Yesterday I was down pretty much all day.

Perdido was a nice beach and was pretty quiet on Christmas Day.  I also tried to get to the Pensacola Lighthouse.  From the west, I made it to the NAS Pensacola gate and decided it was a no-go.  I then rode around the east side of the town and saw a sign for the light.  I pointed the rig in that direction, crossed a bridge and wound up at the NAS gate.  We had a nice conversation about me being lost and I was escorted off the base…oops.

On 12/24, we had stayed at a Boondockers Welcome host.  They greeted us with good conversation and a stack of brownies on the 23rd.  They just bought a house in the UP.  When we left, they gave us a Christmas box with mixed nuts and homemade cookies.  What a great stop.  We then drove up the forgotten coast of Florida which was beautiful.  We also had to stop for some supplies at Ace Hardware.  We arrived at our BW hosts and couldn’t reach the power box with all our cords.  The people who were renting the Air Bnb were also weird.  We did a pivot and decided to get up to Pensacola.  It was an extra 3 hours, but we’re now closer to SA.  Katy made a great lasagna when we arrived.  It is a Christmas tradition from my family.

On the 23rd we left St Augustine and drove to Panacea.  The drive was pretty easy and uneventful.  One thing to note is that we thought Maggie was chewing on a bone on the floor behind Katy’s seat.  Turns out she chewed up the wiring to the seat.  I got it fixed for the most part I think.  Shrink tubing and tape to the rescue.
