One Year Ago

We left Oregon a year ago today.  I walked out the back gate at the PD at noon and we were on the road to California by one.  We’ve done a ton of things and been to a bunch of places and this year seems to have gone by the fastest.  As you get older the time seems to go by quicker.

This week we’ve had a few cracks at jobs.  We could’ve been employed in Willcox AZ, but they only gave enough hours to cover the campsite.  We were turned down by a place in Alabama and Fort Pierce but we are only available until mid April so they passed on us.  We did have a good interview for a job over by Orlando and we should hear about that today.  The job would end on 4/16, the day before Easter.

We’ve stayed active with biking, paddling and taking a trip over to Gainesville.  I swam with a Manatee at Nayflower.  It didn’t go as planned.  I wasn’t graceful, I don’t float very well and I didn’t shave enough to get a good seal on my mask.  It was still a pretty cool experience to swim along with something that big.

After my swim, I got back on my board and put my shirt and hat back on.  We started to paddle out as a tour boat came in.  The guide started talking and I looked over my shoulder which was the end of my standing.  I took a three step plunge off the board and tried to keep my phone, paddle, hat and sunglasses with me.  I was successful in keeping my belongings, but I had a very wet chiropractor appointment at 4pm.  The Dr was a good sport about it.

We had a few days of fog that was really thick and high humidity.  Yesterday turned out to be really nice and we made wings on the smoker.  There was a nice sunset and we should’ve biked out to see it, but we had to babysit the grill.  We’ll see what today brings.  Hopefully a job.  If not, we are going back on the road for a few months.
