Road Trip and Rain
Monday morning we explored the American Space Museum in Titusville. It is a cool little museum in the shadow of Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center. They have multiple workers and volunteers who worked for NASA and the space program. They are a wealth of knowledge, it was worth the stop. The woman’s exhibit was really interesting, I had no idea how many women have been astronauts.
We drove up the coast to St Augustine, stopping at Buc-EEs for supplies and diesel under $3 a gallon. We made it to the park as it started to rain a bit. It was really windy, but we got set up fine in the oaks, semi sheltered from the wind. We were very close to having a trailer flat, but the screw stayed in the tread. The news called for 3” of rain and we were kind of nervous about site flooding. Let me tell you, it rained hard all night. We didn’t get great sleep as the trailer was so loud with the storm. We woke up to see our site had flooded a bit, but the ground thankfully soaked it up.
Yesterday we hung out until noon with the wind and rain. We walked the dogs and then headed into town. We hit Walmart for some quick supplies and then went to a distillery. St Augustine Distillery was recommended to us by a couple we met in Lake Worth. They are building a house in Bend and they told us about this stop. They were spot on. The self guided tour with 4 drinks (shots) with extra tastings if you want them was awesome. I really liked The Saint bourbon, but couldn’t bring myself to spend $200 on a bottle. Now, the straight bourbon, I picked up a bottle of that.
After our tour we had some non memorable tacos and came back to the park. The waves were at 9’ so we decided to check out the beach later. As of 4pm there were 41 open sites on our side of the park, but the system showed the park was full. Hmmm.
