NW ARK and SW MO.

Yesterday we did a little backtracking without the trailer.  HWY 86 is much easier without towing.  The drive is also way more scenic.  We brought the dogs with on our adventure as we had thunderstorms through the morning.

Our first stop was Powers Farm Meat Market.  They have their own farm and butcher shop.  Their prices are great and they are really nice people.  We bought a few things and were barely able to get them in the freezer.  The next stop was State Line BBQ.  It’s a small place just inside MO off the 23. It is run by a husband and wife who have been there for 4 years.  We had ribs, chopped brisket, coleslaw and potato salad.  It was almost a 10/10, you feel like you’re at a family BBQ and getting grandma’s recipe.  We had a great conversation with the owners and then headed out to explore some more.

Based on recommendations from friends and the couple at
The BBQ joint, we headed up to Roaring River SP.  The river is 7 miles long and spring fed.  There is a fish hatchery up near the start and it is a trout park.  I wasn’t aware these existed, but it’s a thing in MO and AR.  You buy a fishing permit and the river is freshly stocked with trout.  The water from the springs keeps the river cool enough for the trout.  It is definitely worth checking out.

After checking out the river, we headed for the town of Eureka Springs.  It’s a cute little town with the downtown area being in a tight valley.  It reminded us of Jerome AZ, except greener.  We found a spot to park and walked around for a bit.  There are a lot of cute shops, bars, hotels and vacation rentals.  Don’t try to stop here with anything bigger than a conversion van, the parking is tight.  Definitely worth a visit.

We took the long way home through Berryville and back up the 65.  The welcome to Missouri sign is way better on this main route.  Back in Branson, we decided to take a drive past all the attractions.  This area is definitely like Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg TN.  It started raining so hard the wipers couldn’t keep up.  As the rain slowed, we headed back to the rig for the night.
