OKC…wow

Wednesday we drove up to Oklahoma City, Edmond to be exact.  We stayed at Arcadia Lake Park and found a full hookup site.  We quickly got set up, walked the kids and headed for town.  We had lunch at Brickyard Brewery which was a good stop.

Costco was next on the list for some supplies followed by Roughtail Brewery for one more.  Katy liked the beer better at Brickyard which had a Blueberry beer like the Vierling in Marquette.  We got back home and walked the kids again before hanging out and playing some games.  It was a really windy evening again with gusts up to 40.

Yesterday we got up and walked the kids before exploring.  Our first stop was our 5th Black Rifle Coffee Shop.  We got a cup, a snack and a bag to go.  After BRCC, we headed for the Oklahoma National Memorial at the site of the 1995 bombing.

The memorial and museum are so well done.  Very thoughtful and laid out really nice.  It is a must visit if you are in Oklahoma City.  It is a very somber place, like visiting Pearl Harbor or the 9/11 Memorial.  The grounds are immaculate and there is a chair on the lawn for each one of the victims and the corresponding floor they were on.  The museum is two floors worth of information and exhibits.  Again, this is a must visit.

After the Memorial, we headed further downtown to the Bricktown Riverwalk Area.  We found a spot to park and walked the area for a few hours.  We checked out a few shops, had lunch at the Bourbon St Cafe and some wine at Pit A Cork In It.  The food was good and we took home a bottle of  Oklahoma Wine.  OKC is one of the cleanest cities we’ve been to on our trip.  It was a surprise to us that it is so well cared for and is a great city.  I guess we didn’t expect that for its size.

After OKC, we headed up to Arcadia on Route 66.  We got some diesel at $4.49 and stopped at the Arcadia Farmers Market.  This market was an inside market and had some great items.  We bought some meat, tamales and some local soaps.  After the market, we stopped by the Round Barn.  It has been refurbished since it’s heyday and is worth the time if you are passing by.  We had 10 minutes before they closed up.

We came back, walked the kids, played games and had some tamales with Oklahoma Wine.  Back on the road today, but we would definitely come back to OKC.
