Wyoming…our new home?
Yesterday we drove up to Sheridan. What a beautiful drive. We stopped for fuel in Kaycee, the Sinclair station has some amazing big game mounts in it taken by locals in the nearby Big Horn Mountains. There wasn’t much for radio service but we did find a station with good drive day vibes, 88.7.
We stopped at two Amish stores just south of Buffalo. The first had a ton of room for parking and some great items. The homemade canned good and woodworking were amazing. The store was being lit by battery power as was the cash register. The second store did not have room for us to park so I stayed with the rig out on the shoulder of the road. These stores would be doing so much more business if they advertised out on the highway. Maybe they like it the way it is.
Our next stop was the town of Buffalo. Their saying is “A creek runs through it.” What a great little town with amazing access to the mountains. There are a bunch of great shops downtown and the people are friendly. The downtown area also has a bunch of murals. It’s not too big and a local told us there is only so much room to grow. There was just something about it, we will have to come back.
After Buffalo we drove up beyond Sheridan and got our rig set up at the KOA. It’s a nice little park along Goose Creek on the north end of town. We walked the kids a few laps and then secured them in the rig. It was a short 5 minute drive into town and we saw a truck camper riding around with his back door open. He eventually pulled off the Main Street and we were flashing our lights at him. He pulled over and we chatted with him for a second. He told us he is on his way to Alaska and had heard horns honking, etc and saw the door was open. Hopefully he didn’t lose anything.
We found a spot to park and walked the town. This place is awesome. Everything you need in a town of 17,000. Access to the mountains, rivers and lakes. Breweries, nice stores and friendly people. We stopped at Smith Alley brewery and it has a nice vibe. It also has some designs that we love. Glass garage doors to outdoor concrete service areas. The beers and seltzer were good.
Sheridan also has a ton of bronze sculptures in the downtown core. Some of them have been donated or loaned to the town and some of them had astronomical price tags on them. Most of them are beautiful and add to the charm of this place. We will definitely be coming back to this area for a closer look. Wyoming, you have been impressive.
