40 days and 40 nights
It feels like we are preparing for a modern day Noah’s Arc. It’s rained a lot this spring, but it has produced a lot of rainbows. A good amount of Montana has flooded and Yellowstone National Park is closed due to washed out roads. This is more for our information to look back on.
Work has been pretty steady. Last Thursday I walked 32,000 steps with a weed eater and push mower. I was wrecked and I think we’re doing it again this week. Better food choices are in order the day before. We’ve met and hung out with some cool neighbors in the park. One is a couple from the PNW who travels and works from the road. They’ll be back this fall. We also hung out with a couple who we met in town our first few weeks here. They have 20 acres and a great view. We hope to bike and paddle with them when it gets nicer.
We’ve been up to Kalispell a few times. Last week we went up for a bike ride and it poured when we got there. That left us with errands, lunch and a slow ride around the lake. We had lunch at Kalispell breweries food truck. The beer was better than the food. We also stopped at Bias brewing as Kalispell didn’t have any options for me.
On our drive around the lake, we chatted with a former neighbor from Bend. We hope to see her over this way in the fall. We drove through Big Fork and stopped at Whistling Andy distillery for a tasting and cocktail. Their spiced Rum and Harvest Select Whiskey are really good. The taco truck outside makes great empanadas too.
We tried to set up residency while up in Kalispell this week, but the mail service/address does not count. Now we are back to square one. Last week we stopped by the VFW as it is open to the public. We were told they serve pretty good food. We each had a burger, I had two seltzer’s and Katy had two IPA’s. The burger was the best we’ve had in town and the bill was only $22. We were pretty surprised by that and rang the bell to get a round for the bar. It still wasn’t very expensive.
Yesterday we went back to the VFW for a few drinks and split the burger special. After lunch we walked across the street to the theatre to watch Top Gun Maverick. It was $5 Tuesday and the movie was awesome. They did a great job keeping it new, but tied in the original just enough. Bravo.
Today is our last day off and I hope the weather cooperates for some outside activities.
