Dog Days of Summer

This past week Katy worked an extra day so I did a 30ish mile training ride.  Turns out they opened the Sun Road on July 13th so we didn’t get to bike it.  I didn’t draw a permit the week before.  Who knows, maybe there will be a chance this fall.

At work I mowed two days last week.  One in the KOA and one in the resort.  These have always been high step count days so I decided to check it by gps.  Turns out I put in just over 13 miles pushing a mower or carrying a weed eater just in the resort.  After biking and two days of mowing I was pretty tired.  On a side note, I got to meet a NASCAR driver who I followed back in the days of watching racing.  It was pretty cool.

On our off days we attended the final day of the Standing Arrow PowWow.  Prior to the PowWow, we had breakfast up at Lake Mary Ronan.  It was a relaxing morning.  It’s been about 30 years since I attended a PowWow.  Katy had never been.  We arrived just before the grand entrance and were able to see representatives from all the tribes enter.  The drumming and singing from all the groups was powerful.  It was a great experience to see groups of people come together and honor their heritage.

Monday was windy and cold so that put a damper on our plans for the day.  We regrouped and then caught the Elvis movie.  We both thought it was kind of sad.  Seems he was taken advantage of most of his life.  Yesterday we meal prepped and met up with friends from Hamilton.  It was a nice visit and recharged us to get back out exploring.  Now back to work for a few days.
