Glacier NP

This past week has gone by pretty quickly.  Work was fun without having to walk 13 miles with a mower or weed eater. Maybe next week or the week after because it’s been hot.

I met with an old co-worker and had lunch at the VFW.  Tarquin was the Swiss Army knife of BPD.  He also has Jeopardy level knowledge of most things.  It was nice seeing him for an hour and hearing how retirement is working out for him.

On Saturday morning I woke up and snagged a pass for Glacier NP and The Sun road.  The ride up to the park and Logan Pass in particular is pretty far from Polson and the pass is good for 3 days.  Katy got up and got online to find a spot to stay closer to the park.  It is hot so we needed hookups for the pups.  We tried a Boondockers Welcome, but then found a back in spot w/e at West Glacier KOA.

Yesterday we got up early, packed the trailer for the first time in 3 months and hit the road.  We stopped at Costco for a few things to include sheets, thanks Maggie.  The next stop was Jalisco Cantina in Whitefish, based on a recommendation from Andy Stumpf.  If you are in Whitefish, it’s worth the stop.  The chips and salsa, drinks and pollo asasdo tacos were great.  The building and decor are also top notch.

We got to the KOA and got set up in a tricky spot.  Lucky for us, the small trailer got us the last spot in the park, last minute.  We got set up and walked the dogs before going to the park.  This is truly the gateway to Glacier as it’s about 3 miles down the road.  Location, location, location.

The drive up into the park was awesome.  We haven’t been here in 10 years and it is better than I remember.  The wild flowers are at peak and the waterfalls are flowing wide open. The drive up the Sun Road was awesome, a little narrow but awesome.  I had to put our mirrors in a few times.  People from some other states do not recognize the double yellow line.  Katy did a lot of reading on the ride up as she was on the cliff side and doesn’t care for heights.  We stopped at Logan Pass and saw some Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Goats and Marmots.

I think we are headed back in today, we want to paddle and fly fish.  Tomorrow is going to be a hiking day.
