Land Between the Lakes

Wednesday we drove down to Cadiz, Kentucky.  The drive down went from flat farms to some hills and great fall colors.  IL and KY have some high gas prices.  The drive was pretty decent, except for Duncan having an upset stomach.  He’s been sick for a few days but has been acting normal otherwise.  We’re not sure what he’s gotten into.

We pulled into Cadiz and did 4 loads of laundry at the local mart.  After laundry we headed to the farm and got set up.  It’s a beautiful BW site on a 140 acre corn farm.  Our hosts have been to all 50 states as well and RVed in 38.  The farm setting is nice and we looked out towards Ft Campbell KY.  The 160th SOAR was busy flying all afternoon and into the night.  It was fun watching them fly around the country side and hearing them go over low in the dark.

Yesterday we explored the Land Between the Lakes.  Such a beautiful area with fall colors at or near peak.  The LBL is a limestone “ridge” between the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers.  We drove through the Bison and Elk Prairie which was worth the $5.  We saw a small curious Coyote and lots of Bison.  It was cool seeing them in this habitat vs the plains.  This area reminds us of the finger lakes in New York.  We need to come back when it’s warmer to put the boats in and hit the bike paths.

The Lake Barkley Lodge was a good stop for a quick lunch.  It’s a beautiful structure from the 60’s and has a great view.  It would also be nice to see it when it’s in the busy season.  They have a good IPA from Lexington that Katy liked.  After the lake we hit some Antique stores in Cadiz which is always fun.  We didn’t leave with anything.  I always look for Ernest Hemingway novels.  I haven’t been very lucky.

In the early afternoon we headed for Amish country with one of our hosts.  We went to the market and picked up a few items.  After we got back we exchanged a few things with our hosts and received some garden tomatoes and a really cool handmade bowl.  Our host makes them out of walnuts to keep busy.  It is so unique.
