The Road to St Louis
Sunday we drove to Monroe City, MO. The ride down the 29 and across on the 36 were nice. The fall colors were peak most of the way. We stayed at Sweetwater Distillery which has been in business for a few years. We did a spirit tasting then had a few drinks and a pizza. The Jimmy Red corn Whiskey was my favorite.
As far as drinks go, the Kentucky Mule and the smoked Old Fashioned were top notch. Katy enjoyed a few of there vodka drinks. It was definitely a great stop along our route.
Yesterday we drove down to Columbia Illinois (new state) which is outside of St Louis about 20 minutes. We stopped at Camping World, dumped out tanks and filled our fresh water along the way. We got set up in our spot and then headed back into the city.
Sugarfire BBQ was our first stop and we split the 3 meat platter. It was as good as I remember. After food it was on to the Basilica of St Louis. So impressive. It is full of mosaic artwork and is the second largest collection of mosaics in the world. The first is in Moscow if I remember correctly. It is definitely worth checking out.
Our last stop was at Union Station Grand Hall. Unfortunately it was closed to a private DoD event that we later saw on the news. We did see a 4 star general when we were in the hotel and later saw them speaking on the news. Keep up the good work.
