Forgotten Coast to Emerald Coast

This weekend we took a trip up to Port St Joe and Mexico Beach.  The New Years celebration in Chiefland was pretty rowdy and included some errant gunfire.  Still shocks me that some people don’t understand gravity especially in residential areas.

The trip over to the coast was easy and a nice drive.  We stayed in a boutique park within east walking distance to the water and hit the beach multiple times.  The forecast was originally not so great, but we were pleasantly surprised the rain held off until yesterday.

The area we stayed in is divided by a street.  MB on one side and St Joe on the other.  The road is also the line between eastern and central time zones.  The beach to the south is dog friendly and the north beach is not.  The dogs loved being off leash but on collar and exploring.  We highly recommend this part of Florida and will definitely be back.  The only tricky thing is your phone will likely stay on central time so pay attention as the park is in eastern.

We also took a ride out on Cape San Blas.  The beaches out in the state park are amazing and also very quiet.  The cape is more built up than we expected but it must be a “low” time to visit.  We saw some miniature white tailed deer out there as well.

As for food in the area, we really enjoyed the fish tacos at Krazy Fish and would pass on going back to Shipwrecks.  Our neighbors in the park are working on opening a pizza joint in Southern Illinois and they brought us a sample pie one night.  It was the best pizza we’ve had in a long time.  I hope they get the business off the ground in the near future because he is talented.

The drive back yesterday involved driving in storms for almost half the trip.  We let everything blow by us in MB and ended up catching back up with it.  When we made it back to our park, we learned it is switching to a 55+ park under new ownership.  Stand by for what that means for us…
