Month and a Half

The past six weeks have gone by rather fast.  I’ve been working 4-5 days a week at Ace and Katy finished up her jobs.  We’ve both been feeling a little under the weather (allergy symptoms, headaches, etc) for quite some time and recently found our mattress is/was moldy.  We replaced the mattress with a 12” residential memory foam after a deep clean and what a game changer.

On our days off we’ve been down to Cedar Key a few times,
Hernando Beach, paddled new sections of the Rainbow River and taken a drive out to Steinhatchee.  After the new sections on the Rainbow, upstream from KP is still our favorite.  Cedar Key is always a nice quick getaway to see the Gulf and dolphins.  The Tiki Bar might be one of our favorite stops out there.  29* North 83* West is probably our go to restaurant out that way.  Hernando Beach is a cool area and we’re going to go back at some point to explore it in more detail.  Steinhatchee is just about an hour drive NW from here.  It’s a cute little area close to the Gulf.  It might be a fishing village with a bar problem.  It’s small and our speed.

We also checked out a few distilleries.  Njoy was first on the list and we met Faith and Troy out there.  If you are headed that way from the south do not trust google.  It had us in the wrong spot with closed roads.  It also got me yelled at by a lady on a golf cart for going 20-25 near a campground…except I wasn’t in the campground.

The distillery is 5 miles off the beaten path in the middle of a state forest.  It’s a little oasis and the rum and whiskey are pretty good.  They also typically have food trucks out there for the weekend.  We did the tour, had a few beverages and chatted for a few hours.  If not for the long drive for us, I’d go back.

We also stopped at Fish Hawk (not the same day) and had a few drinks.  This is a family run distillery between Dunnellon and Ocala.  They have a bigger selection of spirits and a pretty hefty cocktail list.  The smoked old fashioned is worth a try.  We had some good conversation and bought a bottle of dark rum to mix with ginger beer.

The weather has been pretty decent and we are down to 6 weeks in FL, one month left in Chiefland.
