Daytona
Saturday we rolled out of Chiefland and headed east. The drive to Daytona/Ormond Beach was pretty easy although we got stuck behind a huge yacht being pulled by a semi. The ride from Ocala was slow.
We made it to Bucees and have never seen it that busy. Katy went in to get lunch, etc and I found a diesel pump that would accommodate us. We got filled up and then headed for Tomoka State Park. Our Florida state park experiences have been good and this was no exception. The sites are good sized and there is privacy in between.
We made a beeline for the beach and it was a nice day, hot actually and walked for a bit. It was nice to get over there as the weather made a turn for the next few days. It rained for about 26 hours with high winds and flooded a few roads.
We continued to explore the area by truck and drove by the Daytona Speedway, it is huge and I’m a little bummed that we didn’t come over and watch the race. We stopped at Bass Pro and I picked up a few streamers for fly fishing down south and we had some great fish Tacos at Crabbys.
Daytona and Ormond have quite a bit of construction going on from Hurricanes Ian and Nicole. (We were here for Nicole). There is still a lot to be done and there is a lack of beach in many areas. We also got a bike ride in. We took a ride to Ormond Garage which is a brewery and restaurant. It is definitely worth checking out. I now have 4 months until Ore to Shore.
Yesterday was a drive day and Costco day. Hadn’t been to a Costco in a long time and we wound up with a big bill. Stocked up a bit to avoid Keys prices. The further we got south, the heavier it rained. Some places in the Miami area got a foot of rain, 3” per hour. We stayed at a HH farm that we’ve stayed at twice before and got a good nights sleep. Another drive day and “regroup” upon our arrival. Looking forward to the next few weeks.
