Hattiesburg to Texas

We spent three nights at Paul Johnson State Park south of Hattiesburg MS.  It was a quick drive up and we had the park to ourselves for the most part for the first two nights.  We walked the dogs quite a bit and threw the ball for Duncan.  Maggie tweaked a front leg down in Biloxi and has been moving a little slow so just walks for her.  We had a lake view and quite a bit of waterfowl, Canada geese and Heinz 57 ducks.   We had a great bike ride on the Longleaf Trace.  The trail is an old railroad grade and stretches 44 miles one way.  We did a 32 mile round trip.  We stopped for lunch at Fajitas in Sumrall and really enjoyed our street tacos.  It’s definitely worth a stop if you find yourself there.  Thursday we Went to the farmers market in town and picked up a few things to include homemade honey butter…so good.  After the market we stopped at Southern Prohibition Brewing and played some cribbage at the bar while we had a flight a...

Biloxi Miss

Last Friday we left Gulf Shores for the state of Mississippi.  We didn’t go the traditional route which goes up around Mobile Bay.  Nope.  Let’s put everything we own on a boat and cut a few miles off the trip.  We made it over to Ft Morgan to catch the Ferry to Dauphin Island and thought we would have to wait for the next boat.  However, the captain and crew worked some magic and got us on.   It doesn’t seem like a big deal but it was a strange feeling when we rolled our house onto a boat.  The ride across took about 40 minutes and provided a pretty cool perspective and experience.  It also saved us some miles and diesel.  Probably not $47 worth of diesel, but it’s about the experience.  After landing, we made our way along the low country of AL and into MS.  We drove through Bayou La Battre, the shrimping capital of the world according to Bubba and Forrest.  The town has a history of being battered by hurricanes and it shows ...
