3 Weeks in The Keys

We left The Keys a few days ago and headed north…obviously.  We had spent 20 days down there and it was quite the vacation.  There is a misconception with full time RVers that we are always on vacation.  This is not the case just because we live in our trailer which is usually an escape/vacation rig for people with sticks and bricks homes.  We actually worked for 5 plus months to make this trip work.

We spent our time between Jolly Roger and Fiesta Key resorts.  After staying at both places twice in the past 3 years, Fiesta Key comes out on top.  During our stay we did a lot of dog walking, some biking, some paddling, reading, jumping out of a plane and sitting at the beach.  I guess we also ate a good amount of fish tacos.

Of all the biking, the short ride out to Pigeon Key was probably my favorite.  The area has a lot of bike trails that cross the islands, but a lot of them have you crossing bridges with traffic.  The paddles were all nice and I even saw a 6-8’ Bull or Blacktip shark.  It wasn’t interested in me or my board, but it was intimidating watching it cruise by.

The swim area at Fiesta Key is deep and has a nice staircase to get in and out of the ocean.  They also have a better seating area.  We did have a sea wall spot at Jolly, but it is a walkway for anyone at the resort.  It makes it feel like you don’t have a private spot and for the price, I’m not sure it’s worth it.

I think we may try to make Fiesta a yearly experience if we are down in Florida.  We’ll have to see how trade school and the new business goes.  Plenty of things in the works these next few months.  Setting up an LLC, website, logo and of course passing school and hanging out in the Texas heat.
