Gulf Shores
We’ve been over in Gulf Shores AL for a few days now. Gulf State Park has about 470 sites, cabins and I believe a lodge. There are a ton of biking and hiking trails, paved and dirt, a fishing pier and a few beach access points.
In our time here, we’ve done a lot of biking and gone to the beach a few times. I’m not sure if the entire park is full hookups, but our area was. It’s been hot and humid with a few thunderstorms sprinkled in. The heat index has hovered around 100*. You step outside and you sweat and that cycles on repeat.
We’ve had a few meals out and the only one worth repeating is at The Gulf which is made of shipping containers and is situated on Perdido Pass. The jerk Mahi tacos were great and worth a stop. We also did FloraBama on the border and it was a cool stop for a drink on the beach. They have live music daily. The drinks were good and the food was okay.
Again, this park has a good bike ability score because you can easily get right into Gulf Shores. If there’s not a dedicated bike path, the sidewalk’s are wide. One last draw to the state park is that the beaches are not as busy as near the resorts in Orange Beach and GS. We’ll be back this way at some point. Yesterday we spent a few hours by the fishing pier and of course the over water bar. I bet we saw 4-6 sharks cruising near the fishing pier. Nothing huge, maybe up to 6 feet and some of them may have been repeat customers. The beach patrol wasn’t worried about them so they must be cool.
