Almost a month…

It’s been almost a month since my last post and so much has happened.  We visited Perkins Park and the town of Big Bay.  I hadn’t been there since college.  We watched Anatomy of a Murder prior to heading up there and visited the scene of the crime and the Thunder Bay Inn.  The pizza doesn’t hold a candle to the early 2000’s.  We also explored a few falls in the area.  Yellow dog is a multi-falls after a nice rolling hike.  Google may take you to some private property so make sure you type in the trailhead vs the falls itself.  Alder Creek falls is worth a stop, it’s a short hike but very steep at the end.  The falls also looks way higher from the top than the bottom.  Perkins Park was a nice quiet campground for the two days we had to leave Marquette.

Back in MQT we did a lot of biking and I did a bit of working.  I also headed back up to L’Anse to finish up some jobs and work on the boat.  The following week I headed up to get the boat, work on another trailer and fish with some friends.  We had a great day trolling near Pt Abbaye and limited out on Lakers.  Thanks to Joe and Tim for the trip and conversation.  I also made some blackened Lake Trout and was surprised by how good it was.  There may be some Laker tacos in my future.

Katy and I went through our storage unit after 3 years and thinned a few things out.  We already moved some larger items to friends and family, but this go round we went through about 6 Costco bins and consolidated.  We also brought 1/2 a truckload to goodwill.  Some items were added to the trailer to work the beet harvest.

A week ago we left Marquette for Mackinaw City.  We’re going to be here for another 5 ish weeks before harvest.  We have done quite a bit of biking, walked the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day, checked out a few breweries and I’ve had quite a bit of work.  Yesterday we took a drive along the lake down to Harbor Springs and then into Petoskey.  It was a nice drive and we really like Harbor Springs.  The Saturday market was cool, even in the last 5 minutes.  We also stopped at a great little winery, Farmhouse Vineyards on the way home.

Our drive took us through the “tunnel of trees” and we can’t wait to see it in a few weeks.  Funny story of the week, I repaired a water heater on an Airstream in a casino parking lot during a thunderstorm.  Won’t forget that one…

I’ll try to be better with keeping up on our travels.
