Three Years, unbelievable.
On 12/10/20, we drove out of Bend OR for a 1 year tour of the country to find a new place to settle down. Oh the places you will go. Never did we expect to be out here starting our 4th year of travel. With Alaska and the west coast on the map, we can see another year going by. Who knows…
The past few weeks were spent mainly in north GA. Cleveland, Dahlonega, Clayton, Talullah Falls, Helen, Blue Ridge, Blairsville, and McCaysville. This area is high on our list of places we have been, we can definitely see ourselves back in the area. The scenery is great, we’d love to come back when the leaves are on the trees. The brewery scene is strong and the wineries are fantastic. Hiking Yonah Mtn was quite a project. Duncan and I did it and the view from the top is great. 2 miles and 1500’ elevation. It’s been a minute since we’ve done that. Duncan also found an ornery Possum who was buried in leaves. I think they both just did some whining and hissing. Both seemed unscathed as I got Duncan out of its den. It was exciting for a few seconds.
Our first campground, Jenny Creek can be skipped. We actually left a day early to stay at a Harvest Host due to dogs barking/howling. Our first spot had a long term family who plugged their truck into our pedestal and let their dogs crap everywhere without picking it up. There’s more, but you get the hint.
We visited friends and classmates in Blue Ridge and enjoyed the KOA there. The downtown is cute with shops, restaurants and walking all within a few blocks. We’ve wanted to come here for years and finally checked it off. It was great to catch up and we really appreciate the hospitality. The blueberry shine is also a nice treat.
We are now parked between Charleston SC and Savannah GA. We stayed at this park our first year and this stay has been better so far. Our site is way better. The drive down here was nice with one stop at a Boondockers in Augusta. Our first night in the area was at the Hwy 21 Drive In. We got parked, talked with the manager and settled in for the local F35 and F18 pilots about a 1/2 mile away. After dark we were treated to “Trolls and The Grinch” double feature. Definitely one of the most unique Harvest Hosts we’ve stayed at. Highly recommended. Yesterday we hit up a Christmas Market at the Montage Palmetto Bluff. It definitely wasn’t our speed. We met another nice full time family from
Montana which was nice. There was valet parking and toddlers running around in khakis with sweaters and shirt and tie underneath. Again, not our speed. We headed over to Hilton Head for a margarita and Mahi tacos.
Today I put in a new water pump, we meal prepped and did laundry to regroup.
