A week back on the road.
We’ve been back on the road for a week and have knocked out 609 miles of 4,294. We boondocked for 6 days which is our longest stretch and tested our water use skills. We stayed with multiple Harvest Host and Boondockers spots.
Our first stop was at a winery and we ended up staying a second night with storms predicted up north. Well, the storms ended up finding us with tornadoes 10 miles south of us. While in the area, we went to Montevallo AL which is the center of Alabama. If you ever find yourself there, check out Orr park. The tree carvings are very cool.
We then spent two nights in Athens/Huntsville. We hit up a few breweries and pizza along with running some errands (Costco). Buc-ee’s was also on the list. Yellow Hammer brewery and Earth and Stone Pizza are a 10! If you’re in Huntsville, stop here. If you like pizza, wine, beer, cider and seltzer anyway.
After Huntsville we checked out Franklin TN. It reminded us of Bend, but in Tennessee. Parking was not great for the truck and trailer. After walking around town and checking out the shops we brought the kids for a walk in a local park. We stayed at another Harvest Host location that we backtracked for. Nash Family Farm and Creamery has some great grilled cheese sandwiches and ice cream. It is located out in the country with beautiful properties nearby. It is a great spot to stop.
We are currently in Paducah KY and decided to stay here an extra day for the Eclipse. We were having a difficult time finding a spot and Katy asked a camp host why everything was booked up. His reply, “it’s the eclipse ma’am.” We knew there was going to be an eclipse but we figured we’d be north of here already. On a side note, downtown Paducah is pretty cool. The town has a 14’ high flood wall protecting it. They have also painted the towns history in murals on the wall. If you are close, spend a day checking it out. Back on the road tomorrow, new trailer tires and a return visit to a Harvest Host.
