Goodbye Fairbanks

Monday the 16th we said goodbye to Fairbanks and our co-workers.  The last few weeks in the Golden Heart City flew by…just like the rest of the summer.  We saw the northern lights quite a bit and hit up a few places/things we hadn’t done.

We helped some co workers get their rigs squared away for the long trip south and also got our affairs in order.  We had some get togethers with co-workers and a great steak potluck dinner with giant ribeyes provided by Jimmy.  I also attended a Whistle Pig Bourbon tasting with Jimmy and Jamie.  We had an appetizer, dinner and 9 Whistle Pig pours.  It was really fun as there were representatives from WP there to tell us about the brand and the different products we sampled.

We also went back out to Chena Hot Springs.  It was way busier than it was in May and we had a quick lunch.  On the way back we stopped at a stocked lake, made a fire, let the kids swim and I caught a few rainbow on Panther Martin Spinners.  I went back out there the next week to see the fall colors and caught my first and only Arctic Grayling.  Josh and I also tried fishing Badger Slough and the Chena River but we didn’t have any luck.  With all the rain, the Chena was really high.

We also made one more stop at the Fairbanks Community Foodbank to drop off our Food is Medicine planter and our last donation of food.  We also volunteered one last time.  We ended where we started, sorting tons of produce with a half dozen or so new friends.

It was also our 18th Anniversary on the 16th and we drove to Denali to stay for a night or two.  Everyone else was headed out of Fairbanks on the 17th, but we weren’t quite ready to leave AK just yet.  More on those travels later.
