Lake Louise and the Village

Thursday we woke to snow on the ground and light snow falling.  At 11:15 the night before, it was perfectly clear when I let the pups out.  The power also went out and came back on sometime around 4am.

We had some breakfast and coffee and then headed for Lake Louise and Moraine Lake.  No personal vehicles were allowed to enter Moraine, tour busses only.  Upon getting up to Lake Louise, all the signs said parking lots full and we were sent back down the mountain.

We found lunch at Bill Peyto’s and it was pretty decent.  The elk burger was good and Katy really liked the tomato soup.  The next stop was the visitor center.  They told us to go to Lake Louise before 9am or after 6pm to park.  All of the shuttles showed they were sold out too.

We drove back up the hill and found there was parking available, pay to park.  We found a spot and then went to a kiosk.  Well, it was $36.75 for the day.  No hourly, just the day rate.  We paid it, there was no other way to see it.  Turns out we were up there with a couple thousand new friends.  We grabbed two beers from the Lake Louise hotel for $26.25 and went down to enjoy the lake.  We found a bench and people watched as much as we enjoyed the lake.  The setting is awesome and we really enjoyed seeing the turquoise water.  The last time we were up here, I walked out on the ice.

After a couple hours up by the water, we rolled back into the campground.  We walked the dogs around the campground a bit and I took Duncan down along the Bow River when Katy and Maggie were done.  We had some burgers and watched some Yellowstone.
