Yellowhead Highway

Tuesday we had a nice drive along the Yellowhead Hwy down to Jasper.  We wish the weather was a little clearer, but the drive was still beautiful.  As we approached Jasper we started seeing signs of the fire.  Getting into town, we saw the devastation.  We also saw renewal.  Work is being done and places are opening up.  We found a parking spot and ate a late lunch at The Maligne Range which is part of Jasper Brewing.  The food was good and we learned more about the fire in the area from our server.

We continued east up towards Hinton and saw Elk, deer and Bighorn Sheep.  One bull elk in town was the biggest one I’ve seen on the hoof.  The drive up was really nice and the sun came out.  We got set up in our campground and headed up to the Hinton SPCA and Animal Shelter to volunteer.  We were able to take two sweet pups (Tucker and Harmony) for a walk around the area.  They are down to just one dog from the fires.  At one point they were nearly overwhelmed with them.

After dog walking we split a chicken wrap at Folded Mountain Brewing Co.  They are 100 meters from the campground we are in…according to the Google.  It was a good day with a beautiful drive and being able to give back.
