Oct - Nov

This past month seems to have slipped by in a blink.  We made it to Tucson and stayed a few nights at the Tucson KOA resort.  It was nice, but of the three KOA resorts we’ve been at we like Nashville and West Glacier better.  The fresh citrus all over the park was pretty cool.  After regrouping in the city we moved up to Picacho Peak State Park and got Katy settled in.

I then flew home for a quick week with family and my mom’s 70th Birthday.  It was a great visit with family and friends while being back in the Yoop.  We had a nice little party at the Legion for her.  We also took my dad for a ride in the woods and dropped a bit of him off at two spots where we hunted and fished when I was a kid.  There were also three stops at a few of his favorite watering holes.  Katy and the dogs dealt with temps in the mid to high 90s for most of the week.

Back in AZ we ended up getting two new rear tires for the truck.  Not planned as they only had 16k on them.  Discount tire gave us 2/3 credit towards the new ones.  Alaska and back was rough on them.  We did a ton of laundry and then made our drive to Sierra Vista for the winter.  Our spot is on 2.5 acres and it’s a nice break from being in parks for so long.

Our hosts are great and their house and property is awesome.  They used to sail Baja for the better part of 14 years and are both retired veterans.  They have some stories.  They also have a 96 year old desert tortoise who occasionally roams the backyard.  The sunsets are spot on in AZ, there’s something about desert sunsets.

We’ve done a little exploring around Sierra Vista and are enjoying the area.  Bisbee, Tombstone and Sonoita.  The Sonoita area has breweries, distilleries, cideries and wineries!  We may have tried a few and had pizza at Pronghorn Pizza which is at Dos Cabezas winery.  The wines in the area were good and we have quite a few more to explore.

We’ve been walking the kids quite a bit, taking a few bike rides and enjoying the weather.  Katy had a little issue on a bike ride with Duncan.  He stopped, she didn’t and got pulled off the bike.  A broken rib and 10 days of healing and she is on the mend.  Work has started off slow but we are hoping it picks up as people migrate south for the winter.
