Back to the road soon.
I haven’t been good about keeping up with the ol’ blog or updates. It’s hard to believe we’re leaving AZ in about two weeks. These past 5 months have flown by. I’m sure our trip to AK and our time there will be similar. The sunsets and sunrises have been stunning. We saw a SpaceX launch from California. It was impressive seeing it rise above the mountains from several hundred miles away.
The two of us have been working quite a bit. The savings account is finally going the right direction. Katy has been working 5-6 days a week between the schools and the brewery. Some double shifts in there as well. The RV business has really picked up since Jan 9th which has been a really good thing.
For fun, we went to an art festival in Tubac. There were hundreds of vendors and it is a cute town to walk around in. There were so many unique items and amazing art work. We are hoping to go back and check out more of the shops when it’s not as busy, but we are running out of time. We also dipped over to Sonoita a few times for wine tasting. There’s still quite a few wineries we haven’t been to, I guess that’ll be saved for next time we’re down here. We are brining a bottle of Deep Sky Aurora to AK for the next time we the “lights”.
Last week was spring break so we popped up to Tucson to check out the mission. San Xavier Del Bac was created in the 1700’s and is such a neat complex of buildings and the church. The detail inside the chapel is awesome, especially for its time. The pews are made of old lumber and creak quite a bit when you sit in them. The facade is being restored so we didn’t get to see all of it, but it’s still worth the stop.
After the mission, we had lunch at Rollies in south Tucson. This place is definitely worth a stop, it’s just as good as it was 4-ish years ago. Chicken Rollies with a couple of street tacos and Margs! After lunch, Costco was a mad house so we didn’t stick around long.
We’ve also done a bit of volunteering with the local Salvation Army, doing food distribution. My first experience was in Hereford, running shopping cart loads of items to people’s vehicles. I was helping an older couple with a very large load of items and the gentleman asked me a pointed question. “Son, what kind of crime did you commit to be out here doing community service?” I then explained that we like to give back to the communities we visit and told him about seRV. He thought it was pretty neat, but still no apology for assuming I was a criminal. It might be time to shave the beard.
I’ve been getting quite a bit of walking in. I’ve worn out two pairs of Brooks Shoes and had a 78 day streak of walking 5-10 miles a day. The streak was killed by the flu bug, but I’m back above 30 days and hope to continue on until our great pilgrimage north.
