Palmer, Wasilla and Anchorage
5/3 Saturday-5/6 Tuesday
We spent our time in Palmer/Wasilla and Anchorage. There were a few Costco runs for Katy’s contacts and we stocked up on a ton of meat. The new freezer is full. We also stocked up at Fred Meyer and found some Sisters Coffee Co, Black Butte Gold. It’s been a minute since we had a bag of that. There were also a few things we needed from Walmart. From Walmart to the Valdez KOA is 4 hours and 45 minutes under the best conditions. We won’t be making weekly trips back here.
Saturday I also picked up a few things at Camper Valley and let them know I’d be in Valdez. Monday we hit up a few of the rental companies in Anchorage as well to introduce myself and drop off cards. Of the handful of stops, I was offered 3 jobs. I told them my summer was spoken for and they said come work for the winter, we’ll keep you busy. Definitely something to consider for the winter.
Due to winds, rain and dust, the air show didn’t really kick off over the weekend. It was non existent on Sunday. Speaking of Sunday, we didn’t really do anything, the wind and the dust from the Matsu Riverbanks was thick . I did get to see some cool skydivers, jumping with flags on Saturday afternoon. We puttered around the rig and made breakfast, lunch and dinner. There were quite a few YouTube videos on Sunday.
During our time over here, we also hit up 49th State Brewery twice. The beers, cider and blackened Halibut tacos were too notch. This is definitely worth a stop if you are in Anchorage or Denali. If you are in Palmer, Matsnuska Brewery is a good stop too.
Tuesday we did 4 loads of laundry, finished up shopping and drove up to Hatchers Pass. This is the area we stayed in back in 2012 when we came up. The cabins we stayed in are still there, although the area is a little more developed. The ride up to the mine was beautiful and it was snowing up there. We just took a drive and decided not to hike in the snow to the old mine buildings. Not sure if I mentioned it or not in my previous post, but the Springer RV Park and Campground is a great place to stay in this area with awesome views. The grounds and facilities are immaculate and the owners are sinking more money into the park. Highly recommend! We are off to Valdez in the morning.
