Stewart-Cassiar
9/10/25: We left at about 9:55 because Kershaw’s doesn’t open until 10. It’s a cute coffee, pastry and wine bar that overlooks the water. I believe it was an old hardware store. The owners have done an excellent job restoring the building. It’s a very welcoming place.
On the drive up out of Atlin, we spotted a mule deer, a big black bear and I killed a Ptarmigan. It zigged when it should’ve zagged. Back on the Alcan, I got fuel at the junction and we headed for Teslin. We took on more fuel in Teslin and picked up some Okanagan Harvest Pear and Bubly. The drive on the Alcan was pretty vanilla, some places are past peak color and others are looking good.
We took on more fuel at the Cassiar Junction and started south at about 3:50. The Cassiar is the other route to AK, and comes up to the west of Prince George. The road is 450 miles, 720km and is known for being narrow and having lots of wildlife.
We drove down about 50 miles at stayed at Boya Lake Provincial Park. Rolling in here at 5pm, there were no water spots left, but it’s a beautiful, well maintained park. We found a flat spot and parked where we didn’t need to make any adjustments. We had a random dinner, crackers, chips, split a sandwich and then I took Duncan for a lap. We watched some movies we’ve seen a dozen times and hung out.
