Glosta and Witches

Image
Yesterday we drove the 127 up to Gloucester (Glosta) and toured around.  The drive up the coast was really nice and it’s scattered with some cute little towns.  Manchester By The Sea is nice, just too much to write when filling out your address.   We stopped at a visitor center on the way into town, snagged a sticker, map and some local recommendations.  We stopped at the waterfront park before downtown, this is where the fishermen’s memorial is.  The statue and plaque from the movie Perfect Storm.  We drove through town and out to the east past some amazing shoreline and properties.  We stopped short of  Rockport and turned back towards town.   We walked town for a bit and got some coffee.  The Studio in Rocky Neck was recommended for lunch.  The setting was great, but the food and drink was off.  The fish tacos we split were nothing to write home about.  After lunch we rode out to the Eastern Point Lighthouse.  It w...

Salem Mass

Yesterday we drove up to Salem.  We were a few miles into our trip and pulled up to a stop sign.  I looked down and it appeared that someone poured out a piggy bank.  I cleared the intersection, pulled over and ran back across the street. A guy in a black truck pulled up and saw what I was doing.  Picking up change in the road.  He said he thought it was his money and then said “don’t get run over for a pile of change.”I just went for the quarters and was only there for a minute.  Katy counted it and I made $13.   We had to stop for diesel on the ride north and found it for $2.99.  That’s the first time under $3 in a few months…exciting, I know.  As we pulled into the park it started raining.  We got set up and hung out for a bit as it poured.  As the rain slowed, we decided to take a drive through Salem.  It’s a cute town right on the water.  There are lots of boats in the harbor and quite a few nice homes on the water. ...

Bicycle Tour

Yesterday we took off on the bikes and explored a good chunk of the Cape Cod Rail Trail.  We did roughly 32 miles on the CCRT and rode through the cute small town of Orleans.  We also visited Marconi Beach which was our turnaround point.   There were quite a few surfers at the beach and there seemed to be a decent break a little north from the stairs.  Some of the guys had black stripes painted on the bottom of their boards.  Shark deterrent.   On the ride back we stopped in Orleans at Sparrow Hot Chocolate and picked up a tea and smoothie.  This was the 26 mile mark and my legs were heavy.  We finished the ride, walked the dogs and then looked for a late lunch.   We struck out at the first few places and ended up at the Lobster Shanty.  I had some really good Cod and Chips and Katy had a lobster roll.  It was all pretty good.  We then headed up to Truro winery and split a tasting.  The wines were really good and it’s wort...

Cape Cod

We drove over to the Cape yesterday.  We left the campground at exactly 11 after flushing the tanks.  It was a little over two hours and was pretty uneventful.  The road conditions near Providence RI were horrible, I’m surprised we didn’t break a trailer axle.  Getting out to the Cape was pretty easy, the canal bridge wasn’t busy.   Getting off the Cape was a different story.  I’d say the traffic was backed up and crawling to the bridge for 5 miles, maybe more.  I hope it’s not that bad leaving on Tuesday.  We found our spot near Brewster and got set up.  We took the kids for a quick lap and then put them in the trailer.   We drove up towards Provincetown and made a few stops on the way.  We had some great fish at Moby Dicks, stopped to see a light house, which was under reconstruction.  The mosquitoes at the lighthouse/golf course were straight out of a horror movie.  There was no stopping to enjoy the sights.   We c...
