The Eagle Has Landed

We arrived in Polson yesterday after a 3 hour drive from Butte.  The weather was clear and it was smooth sailing.  The drive up from Missoula was new to us and is full of beautiful scenery.  We stopped at our second watercraft checkpoint and gave them our paperwork from Wednesday.  We chatted a bit about our destination and plans and were on our way.   As we created the last hill coming into Polson we were struck by the beauty of the Flathead Valley.  Southern Flathead Lake  with its islands and the Mission Mountains still dressed with snow.  It’s an impressive sight.   We found our way to the campground and met some co-workers before going to our site.  We are all the way in the back and have great views of the mountains and a broken view of the lake.  What a spot, we even had a Bald Eagle flying around as we were setting up.  We walked the dogs and then walked down to The Shoe for a late lunch.  They have great food and ...

Yesterday we rolled out a little after 10 and headed to Little Big Horn.  The Little Big Horn River was also known as the Greasy Grass river by the Native Americans who were living in the area.  For those who don’t know, this is the location of the infamous battle between Custer and several area tribes led by Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull. Yesterday we drove up to Sheridan.  What a beautiful drive.  We stopped for fuel in Kaycee, the Sinclair station has some amazing big game mounts in it taken by locals in the nearby Big Horn Mountains.  There wasn’t much for radio service but we did find a station with good drive day vibes, 88.7.   We stopped at two Amish stores just south of Buffalo.  The first had a ton of room for parking and some great items.  The homemade canned good and woodworking were amazing.  The store was being lit by battery power as was the cash register.  The second store did not have room for us to park so I stayed with the rig out on the shoulder of the road.  These stores would be doing so much more business if they advertised out on the highway.  Maybe they like it the way it is.   Our next stop was the town of Buffalo.  Their saying is “A creek runs through it.”  What a great little town with amazing access to the mountains.  There ...
